Theoretical and practical centre is planned to be founded during 2015-2020 using the facilities of the Republic Residential Treatment Center for Handicapped Children in Minsk, reported director of the establishment Valeri Molosh to the representatives of Russian mass media who visited the centre during their press tour of Belarus.

Valeri Molosh noted that for the past 8 years RRTCHC has obtained unique experience in complex rehabilitation of handicapped children aged 3 to 18 years with nervous and musculoskeletal system disorders. This 120-bed centre was established in the framework of the President’s programme “Children of Belarus”. It is a new type of establishment applying cutting edge methods of medical and social rehabilitation used around the world. Besides that, over the last two years cynologotherapy has been developed at the centre as well. The lessons conducted with the help of specially trained dogs for children with cerebral spastic infantile paralysis yield outstanding results. These children develop not only their movement function, but also receive positive emotions. Among medical services are: therapeutic physical training, hydrotherapy, impulse electrotherapy, magnetotherapy, ultrasound and millimetrewave therapy, phototherapy, reflexotherapy, orthopedic alignment and so on.

Social and psychology-pedagogical rehabilitation includes not only information and advisory help: handicapped children are imparted practical skills of self-service and communication. They study together with teachers-psychologists, social teachers, speech pathologists and music workers. At the ergotherapy classes sick children model in clay, sew, embroider, knit, weave beads and draw. There are even culinary and computer hobby groups.

The workers of the centre also wanted to organize “horsetherapy”. But the construction of a stable, riding house, purchase and housing of horses require enormous money.

Valeri Molosh stressed that the hospital stay is completely free both for children and their parents. Centre’s functioning is financed from the republic budget. More than 6.5 thousand handicapped children have already been rehabilitated at the RRTCHC. After the rehabilitation course (3 months a year) most of them moved to the new stage of motion activity which is the result of high efficiency of the methods used as well as of the experts’ professionalism.

Among promising areas of the RRTCHC work is the rehabilitation according to Swiss method which includes group sports lessons. Unfortunately, there is no gym at the Centre. Yet, Valeri Moolosh believes that in the near future the gym will be built.
