Union State Schoolchildren Competition Started in Polotsk

As is reported by Polotsk municipal executive committee, Union State schoolchildren competition “Russia and Belarus: Historical and Spiritual Community” started in Polotsk on October 26th.

As is reported by Polotsk municipal executive committee, Union State schoolchildren competition “Russia and Belarus: Historical and Spiritual Community” started in Polotsk on October 26th.

During the opening ceremony Chairman of Polotsk municipal executive committee Vladimir Tochilo addressed a speech of welcome to the participants of the competition.

“We are glad to welcome you and hope that Union State schoolchildren competition “Russia and Belarus: Historical and Spiritual Community” will dwell in your schooldays memories!” he said. The Chairman noted that “the competition is not just a contest but also a festive occasion” and wished that “this event would remain in hearts and minds of all who participate as an unforgettable holiday”.

All in all more than 160 pupils from 27 regions of Belarus and Russia will take part in the competition. The event is to start on October 27th. The participants will compete in writing an essay, completing a complex task in the Russian language and literature and will take part in history connoisseur and oratory skill contests.

The jury which includes 25 philology scientists and school teachers from Belarus and Russia will decide 6 teams-winners and three best pupils in the individual event. Besides that, honourable mention prizes will be presented to the winners of competition’s rounds.

The first Union State schoolchildren competition was held in Gomel in 2004. Then Gomel played host in 2006. The next competition took place in Smolensk in 2008. Since then, the event has become an annual one.
