At the press conference held on February 5th at Russian Information Agency “Novosti” Deputy State Secretary of the Union State Vasili Khrol said that Russian rouble wouldn’t become a single currency of the Union State within the next several years.

He reported that “perhaps in three, five or two years the Heads of our states will come to the conclusion that Russian rouble or some other currency should become a single means of payment” and specified that “at present there is no question of that”.

At the moment Russian rouble is actively used for mutual trade operations between the two countries. Besides that, “it is a component of the currency basket of the Belarusian National Bank,” reminded V.Khrol.

As was reported earlier, on February 3rd summing up the meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State Sergey Prikhodko, Assistant to the President of the Russian Federation, said that the parties had adopted the plan of joint crisis management action which contains concrete proposals concerning the increase in payments between the two countries using Russian rouble.

As is known, the treaty establishing the Union State of December 8th, 1999 presupposes unification in the sphere of currency and monetary relations.
