BELAZ to Produce World’s Biggest Dump Truck (video)

Meeting with Russian journalists who were on the press tour in Belarus, General Design Engineer of OJSC “Belarusian Autoworks” (BELAZ) Alexander Egorov said that in March, 2013 the enterprise is planning to bring out world’s biggest mining dump truck designed for a 450-ton payload capacity.

“At the moment our company is actively developing world’s largest dump truck for a 450-ton payload capacity. It will have eight tyres, electromechanical alternating-current transmission, and, no doubt, all possible up-to-date devices needed to automate operator’s work. We are planning to show the truck in March 2013,” said the General Design Engineer.

Alexander Egorov also said that BELAZ continues designing remotely-operated trucks which should solve the problem of qualified dump truck driver shortage. “The prototype of a remotely-operated truck has already been tested at the factory test site and we have learned to operate it at a distance of up to 500 meters. Unfortunately, we had to suspend the work on this model. Recently one more remotely-operated truck has been assembled and is currently being tested in a research-and-development shop,” he said. At this stage the specialists of the works can operate the truck at an 800-meter distance. Yet, for normal work at open-pit mining sites remote operation should be possible at a 10-km distance. “As far as numerous organizations are interested in this product, we will continue our work in this direction and by the end of the year will try to assemble a prototype for industrial testing,” said the General Design Engineer.

In his turn, Acting General Director Vladimir Volchok said that the company’s output is rising. For instance, in January-April 2012 the growth rate at OJSC “BelAZ” amounted to 158.3% (in comparable prices), and if to take the industrial merger on the whole, it grew to 177.1%.
