Alexander Rakevich about Outlook for Economic Crime Control in the Union State

March 12th, 2008 the National Press Centre held the conference “On counteraction to economic crimes and on corruption control in the Republic of Belarus”. The conference was addressed by the representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, General Office of Public Prosecutor, Ministry of Taxation, State Control Committee and Committee for State Security. The speakers stressed that the economic security and corruption control are one of the main lines of Belarusian national security, defence and law enforcement agencies’ activity.

The subject of Belarusian-Russian cooperation was touched upon at the conference as well. A.Rakevich, Head of the department for counteracting corruption and organized crime, informed the correspondent of soyuz.by that the issues of counteraction to corruption and economic crimes occupy a highly important place in cooperation between Russia and Belarus within the Union State and also within the CIS. This subject-matter is often brought up for discussion at regularly held meetings of Attorney-Generals Coordination Council of CIS member-states. It is also planned to hold such joint Public Prosecutor Boards within the Union State. They are to discuss a wide range of cooperation issues, including the issue of joint counteraction to corruption and economic crimes.
