According to Head of the Satellite Operations Control Center Vladimir Yushkevich, on July 22nd the Belarusian remote sensing satellite was successfully carried into the calculated orbit.

Operational orbit of the satellite is 500-520 km.

Belarusian spacecraft (BSC) is characterized by high dynamic performance, which means that it is manoeuvrable and can quickly change its locus to capture images at a desired angle. Special-purpose devices on the satellite are of Belarusian origin. They have been developed by public corporation “Peleng”. The rest of the equipment is foreign: made in Russia and England.

Space survey is needed, above all, by specialists in cartography and geodesy. More than half of the work relating to geospatial data update is carried out using space survey data as a basis. Besides that, satellite information is much in demand in forestry and agriculture. It is also used by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection and Ministry for Emergencies. In particular, they have already prepared a software package to assess snow cover and forecast high-yielding varieties of crops. At present they are being tested. So far our ministries and departments have been using the data of U.S., European and Japanese satellites. By estimate, the prime cost of Belarusian shots should be lower which means that these images will be more affordable.
