The decorations were presented to the veterans of Pomorye by the military commissioner of Arkhangelsk region, Major General Grigori Baginski; deputy of regional Assembly, president of Arkhangelsk regional public organization “Association “Belarus” Viktor Zarya; and deputy governor of Arkhangelsk region for social issues Elena Kudryashova.

“Today we have already met with you at The Eternal Flame where we recalled those who hadn’t returned from the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In our Motherland there isn’t a single family that wasn’t affected by the war one way or another. More than 310 thousand northerners went to the war, almost 140 thousand of them didn’t come home,” noted Elena Kudryashova.

“Long-suffering Belarusian nation has survived a lot. We all remember those bloody battles in Belarus and that powerful partisan movement that opposed the invaders. Soviet people worried about their brothers and strived to liberate this part of the USSR with might and main,” stressed Elena Kudryashova.

The scale of the operation “Bagration” was unprecedented. More than 3 million people from both sides participated in it. “We are proud that among them were also the citizens of Arkhangelsk region,” she assured.

After the ceremony the veterans were offered to raise “front 100 grams” and to pay homage to those who didn’t return from the fronts of the Great Patriotic War with a minute's silence .
