Yanka Kupala private car exhibited in Minsk

On April, 16th the presentation of the renovated car “Chevrolet” that belonged to the classical writer of Belarusian poetry took place in State literature museum named after Yanka Kupala. Minister of culture of the Republic of Belarus Pavel Latushko took part in the ceremonial action.

On April, 16th the presentation of the renovated car “Chevrolet” that belonged to the classical writer of Belarusian poetry took place in State literature museum named after Yanka Kupala. Minister of culture of the Republic of Belarus Pavel Latushko took part in the ceremonial action.

Minister of culture welcomed all participants of the opening ceremony and congratulated them with this important event. He pointed out that the renovation of the “Chevrolet” that belonged to Kupala is a great achievement that helps to keep the memory about the great Belarusian poet. “This car keeps the memory about the very classical writer. We must do our best to maintain the heritage of the poet for future generations”, - said Pavel Latushko.

The car Chevrolet GA Master DeLuxe was given as a present to the first national poet of Belarus by the government in 1939. In this car Yanka Kupala left Minsk on June, 24th in 1941 and headed first for the rural area Levki (Orsha region) and then for Moscow and later in evacuation to Kazan. Till recently the car was exhibited in the branch of the “Levki” museum and in November 2009 “Chevrolet” was transported to Minsk. Renovation works was carried out by the JSC “Minsk-Lada”.
