Pavel Borodin: Abkhazia and South Ossetia Can Join Any International Organization

According to Pavel Borodin, State Secretary of the Union State, there are no barriers that can prevent Abkhazia and South Ossetia from joining any international organization, including the Union State.

According to Pavel Borodin, State Secretary of the Union State, there are no barriers that can prevent Abkhazia and South Ossetia from joining any international organization, including the Union State.

“I believe that Abkhazia and South Ossetia, possessing international legal personality since the Russian Federation recognized their independence, can join any international organization including the Union State,” said the State Secretary.

In P.Borodin’s opinion, official recognition of these republics by other states is just a matter of time. He stressed that Alexander Lukashenko speaks “exactly in this vein” when suggests considering the issue in Belarus “like it was done in Russia, that is in the parliament”.

“The thing is that parliamentary elections are to be held in Belarus in a few days which means that a new parliament is to be formed. It is then that this issue will be examined by the parliament as provided by the country’s legislation,” said Borodin.

He believes that “in terms of economy, if Abkhazia and South Ossetia join the Union State and get involved in scientific-production union programmes, it will further economic development as well as rise in living standards of these republics”.
