April 2nd – the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia

In accordance with the Decree №2 issued by The Supreme Council of the Community of Belarus and Russian on the 2nd of April in 1996 and with the ordinance adopted by the presidents of the countries April 2 was declared as Russian and Belarusian People Unity Day.

For most Belarusians and Russians that crucial decision symbolizes the firmness of the centuries-old brotherhood and embodies the desire of our nations to live our lives together and create the future. Integration processes between our states are being formed on a stable foundation of spiritual unity, the close historical and human destinies, and mutual interest in further common sustainable development of the both countries.

April 2nd will mark the 12th anniversary of signing of the treaty on community of the two countries. On this day in honor of the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia in the capitals of our state – in Moscow city (at the Maly Thearte) and in Minsk city (at the State Philharmonic) grand meetings with the participation of statesmen, representatives of art intellectuals and public national and cultural organizations will take place.

In Moscow People’s Artist of USSR Joseph Kobson, People’s Artist of USSR Vasili Lanovoi, People's Artist of Russia and Georgia Tamara Gverdtseteli, People's Artist of Russia Nadezhda Babkina and “Russkaya pesnya” ensemble, Belarusian State ensemble “Pesnyary”, youth Belarusian and Russian Symphony Orchestra and other art masters will take part in festive concert. The hosts of the concert will be Alyona Spiridovich,Honored Artist of the Republic of Belarus, and Igor Ugolnikov, an actor, a stage director and the president of the Union State broadcasting organization.
