Unified Command of Regional Forces Group of Belarus and Russia Launched Joint Staff Training

As is reported by the press service of Belarusian Ministry of Defense, on February 10th, 2009 Unified Command of Regional Forces Group of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation launched the first phase of joint staff training.

As is reported by the press service of Belarusian Ministry of Defense, on February 10th, 2009 Unified Command of Regional Forces Group of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation launched the first phase of joint staff training.

The foreground task of joint activities aimed at strategical and battle training of Belarusian and Russian armed forces is quality improvement and operation effectiveness increase of regional forces group of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation (RFG).

These activities seek to ensure qualitative training, practice in planning and application of forces in the interests of Belarusian and Russian military security.

The joint staff training of the Unified Command of Regional Forces Group of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation which is held in February-March also seeks to ensure systematic and effective preparation of military authorities and forces for strategical manoeuvres “Zapad-2009”.

The training is named: “Arrangement of application of regional forces group of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation”.

In order to work out JST tasks it is planned to establish a Unified Command that will include the officers from key military authorities of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation as well as headquarters of some military districts of Russian Armed Forces.

The training will be held in two stages: from 10th to 13th February and from 17th to 20th March, 2009.

In the course of JST the participants will be practicing joint planning of operations and action, organization of cooperation at all levels of – from army and operation headquarters to individual military units inclusive. It is also planned to analyze the forms and methods of application of the regional forces group.

The training will make it possible not only to practice the control of troops, but also to increase the level of cooperation among the formations of Armed Forces (in particular, the troops of Northwestern operation command), other forces and military formations of the Republic of Belarus and Russian part of RFG.

Collective security has already become an objective reality and at present is a promising and developing area of military cooperation between Belarus and Russia. Integration in military sphere between the two states is strategic and plays a significant role in the general system of the two countries’ national security.
