Making comments on the rumours about the halting of Union State formation, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus pointed out that the Supreme State Council (SSC) results “demonstrate just the opposite – they show that Union formation continues and covers very serious spheres”.

Commenting upon the situation concerning the postponing of the SCC meeting at the end of last year he said that “the reason couldn’t be clearer and also doesn’t need to be speculated about”.

“The agenda always includes the issues that have a very routine nature, they are important but routine as for example budget evaluation, the report on the previous tasks fulfillment, some appointments in union administration, reports of some commissions and so on”, - said S. Martynov. “And it happened so that these questions were prepared for the previous dates of the supposed SCC meeting. But the second group of issues wasn’t prepared properly”, - he explained.

“It concerns the questions that the very life raises. First of all they are questions connected with financial and economic crisis”, -explained the head of the Belarusian MFA.

S.Martynov added that the problems of fuel and energy complexes cooperation, the building of nuclear power station in Belarus, as well as military and political issues require more time to work over. “And these questions were not properly ready for discussion”, - he underlined.

“Belarusian party suggested SCC solving not only routine but also very raw problems. It was our position. That position was taken into account by the Russian party”, - said the head of the Belarusian foreign-police department.

“It is natural that it took time to prepare these questions properly. SCC has just taken place and all these questions have been seriously discussed; the talk had both deep and constructive nature. That talk resulted in very serious decisions”, - stated S.Martynov.
