Such a statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Presidium at the National Academy of Sciences Petr Vityaz at the press conference which was dedicated to the eightieth anniversary of Belarusian NAS as well as Day of Belarusian Science.

The scientist noted that cooperation with Russian colleagues is developing fairly intensively. The projects that were implemented within the Union State, for instance creation of supercomputers “SKIF”, allowed our scientific developments to enter the world market.

“Thanks to supercomputers “SKIF” Moscow State University is now working on a machine that can make 500 billion operations per second,” noted Petr Vityaz. “Yet, we are to solve the problems concerning not only enhancement of the computers developed earlier but also such issues as personnel training, establishment of a service center to maintain these computers as well as some other questions.

Besides that, according to him, we are successfully cooperating in the sphere of space exploration, development of nanomaterials; there are some issues “concerning the nuclear power plant”.

It should be noted that Belarusian National Academy of Sciences was the initiator of the programme “Nuclear Waste” for the years 2009-2013 presented at the Third Forum of Union State Programmes in Moscow. It is expected that as a result of this programme’s implementation Belarus and Russia will form a competitive basis for research and development in the field of decontamination and nuclear waste processing which will have a first-rate test-bench basis.

On the whole, as P.Vityaz noted, Belarusian-Russian cooperation makes it possible to integrate scientific ideas, set up new manufactures and subsequently enter the world market.
