High technology, Belarus’ Prospects

Key industries of the real economy should become priority guidelines for knowledge application in Belarus, said the representative of the State Committee for Science and Technology talking to Russian journalists in Minsk on August 24th.

Key industries of the real economy should become priority guidelines for knowledge application in Belarus, said the representative of the State Committee for Science and Technology talking to Russian journalists in Minsk on August 24th.

It should be noted that from August 24th to 26th State Institution “National Press Center of the Republic of Belarus” together with the Standing Committee of the Union State is holding a press tour for the representatives of Russian and Belarusian media. The press tour is devoted to Belarusian-Russian cooperation in the area of high technology. During the event the journalists are to visit Joint Institute for Informatics Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, Hi-Tech Park as well as National Hydrometeorological Center.

“At present Belarus is entering a qualitatively new stage of economic and social development,” said First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technology of Belarus Vladimir Nedilko. “In the near future key branches of industry, transport, construction and agriculture should become priority guidelines for knowledge application, employment of the population and generation of income. It is in these sectors where Belarus has a significant competitive advantage,” he stressed.

According to V. Nedilko, currently the concept of the State Programme of Innovative Development of Belarus for the years 2011-2015, approved by the Presidium of the Council of Ministers, stipulates the establishment of new high-tech businesses, which are to ensure the contribution of high-tech industry to the republic's economy that in 2015 will be comparable with the contribution of traditional sectors. New high-tech industries and intensive technical renewal of key sectors of the economy based on the technology of V-VI modes (nanotechnology, photonics, alternative energy, cellular technology, genetic engineering, biotechnology, CALS-technology, etc.) are central for successful innovative development of Belarus, its global competitiveness.

On the basis of this approach, priority trends of high-tech front for the years 2011-2015 are the ones whose scientific and technical potential makes it possible to implement system projects aimed at establishing new modes with the highest extra cost, low energy intensity and consumption of resources, summarized the representative of the State Committee for Science and Technology.
