Putin: Integration between Russia and Belarus Depends on Will of Belarusian People

Real reunification of Russia and Belarus and formation of a full-fledged united state depends entirely on the will of Belarusian people, and if they wish so, they must fight for this idea, said Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Real reunification of Russia and Belarus and formation of a full-fledged united state depends entirely on the will of Belarusian people, and if they wish so, they must fight for this idea, said Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin.

Meeting young people at the forum “Seliger-2011” the Prime Minister was asked whether Russia and Belarus could become a single whole as it was during the Soviet Union times.

“It is possible, very desirable and entirely dependent – 100% dependent – on the will of Belarusian people,” said Putin.

In his turn a young man – the representative of Belarus – assured the Prime Minister that the people of Belarus do want it.

“Then fight for it,” said V. Putin.

He noted that in Belarus there are different approaches to integration processes and it is important to make the opinion in favour of the integration heard.

“Despite all the complications that arise from time to time, for instance, in economic sphere and energy sector, our arguments about gas issues, we must do justice to today’s government and Alexander Grigorievich Lukashenko who consistently follows the path of integration with Russia,” said V. Putin.
