Integration of Russia and Belarus is a major long-term trend of the two countries’ relations, said Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russia to Belarus Alexander Surikov at the press conference in Minsk.
He reminded that “since April 2nd, 1996, the date which went down in history as the Day of Unity of the Peoples of Belarus and Russia, Russians and Belarusians were and are going together”. It was then that the process of the Union State formation began.
According to him, the integration of Russia and Belarus is a key long-term trend of our relations and there may be some variations within it. “The main thing is that we are one nation, we share a common fate. And even when public rhetoric starts to spark, Russia and Belarus don’t revise their stand. All those natural misunderstandings arising in the course of integration development, which are unfortunately made public, all this is a temporary phenomenon and emotions. Whereas our unity is a fundamental phenomenon,” added Alexander Surikov.
