The CSTO takes a negative attitude towards the EU and U.S. sanctions against Belarus, said CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha in Moscow on February 21st.
“Our attitude is a negative one, I have already said about it,” stated N. Bordyuzha, answering the question of soyuz.by correspondent. “I am deeply convinced that sanctions can solve nothing”.
N. Bordyuzha stressed that “today no pressure, either economic or political, can solve country’s internal problems; there is no way for someone to dictate to a sovereign state how to behave, or what domestic policy should be followed”.
According to N. Bordyuzha, the parties must enter into a dialogue and ensure active cooperation. “And in this case, if our Western partners believe that there are some problems, to resolve these problems,” he said.
“These problems have been raised many times, and, as far as I remember, the Belarusian side has been very receptive to such comments or criticisms, and responded promptly,” the CSTO Secretary General added. “And that response has been a constructive one”.
“So I am deeply convinced that the language of sanctions and pressure cannot effectively influence the situation,” summed N. Bordyuzha.
