Parliamentary Assembly Commission on foreign policy summed up for 2008

Parliamentary Assembly Commission on foreign policy summed up the results of its work in 2008 at the last session. In the expiring year the main efforts of the deputies who are the members of the Parliamentary Assembly Commission on foreign policy (further the Commission) have been directed on realization of the Working Plan and of the Commission and the Parliamentary Assembly international activity Plan for 2008. The Commission carried out its inter-parliamentary activity so that widely to inform the international community on a present condition of the Belarusian and Russian integration, prospects of the further Union State building and the role of Parliamentary Assembly in this process.

In 2008 the Commission held 4 sessions where 44 questions have been considered, 5 of them have been rendered to the Council and to the session of the Parliamentary Assembly.

In 2008 as well as in previous years, great emphasis was laid on active participation of the members of the Commission in the activities of the Black Sea economic cooperation Parliamentary Assembly (BSECPA).

Also the deputies took part in the activities of the Inter-parliamentary Union (IU).

The important part of the Commission activity was the participation of the members of the Committee in the international observance of the local elections of foreign countries. Being the members of the CIS Mission of observers, representatives of Parliamentary Assembly observed the course of presidential elections of the Russian Federation during the period from March, 1 till March, 4th, 2008 and the elections of deputies to the House of Representatives of National Assembly of Belarus that took place on September, 28th, 2008.
