International experts are optimistic about prospects for Belarusian mass media self-regulation

As is reported by BelTA, the exchange of views that took place during the seminar “Self-regulation of Mass Media”, and especially the dialogue between the officials of the President's Administration and the Ministry of Information, enabled international experts who were invited to participate in this event by the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) to give an optimistic appraisal of the prospects for mass media self-regulation in Belarus.

As is reported by BelTA, the exchange of views that took place during the seminar “Self-regulation of Mass Media”, and especially the dialogue between the officials of the President's Administration and the Ministry of Information, enabled international experts who were invited to participate in this event by the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) to give an optimistic appraisal of the prospects for mass media self-regulation in Belarus.

After the meeting with Vsevolod Yanchevski, Assistant to the President – Head of Central Ideological Department of Belarusian President’s Administration, Secretary of the Union of Russia’s Journalists, ex-minister of press and information of the Russian Federation Mikhail Fedotov noted that the content and tone of the dialogue impressed him in the most favourable and encouraging way.

Seminar-training “Self-regulation of Mass Media” that took place on 8th-9th September, 2009 in Belarus’ capital had been organized by the Bureau of the OSCE Representative for mass media freedom issues and OSCE Office in Minsk with the assistance of the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
