The Ambassador pointed out that “the 12th of June, 1990 when Declaration of state sovereignty was signed was the beginning of new historic period for the country. The transition to democracy and market economy was strongly supported by citizens of Russia, who made a firm choice for freedom”. In Russia they respect their heroic past and build independently their future. “Day of Russia” has already a 19-year history. During these years the basis was created for stable and confident Russian’s movement forward. Today it is important for Russia to increase the living standard level of its citizens”.

“Because of the economic crisis in Russia it is expected that there will be a decrease in industrial production and in GDP volumes and budget deficit will make up not less than 7 % of GDP. However the state sticks to its social liabilities and will use great financial means for anti crisis programs. In 2009 in Russia social expenses will be not reduced but increased”, - underlined Alexander Surikov.

The Ambassador pointed out: “Day of Russia” is a common holiday for all representatives of multimillion “Russian world”. And the first in this list are Belarusian people. Beginning from April, 2nd in 1996 that went down into the history as “Day of Unity”, Russian and Belarusian people have been together. That was the moment when Union State formation began. Russia is seriously aimed at developing the mutually beneficial integration cooperation that stimulates economic and social progress as well as closer relations between our countries”.

Alexander Surikov reminded that on May, 28th, 2009 during the Union government meeting Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin said that “whatever happens in world economy Russia is always ready to help Belarus”.
