2012 Declared Year of Book in Belarus

On December 30th President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree №618 “On Declaring 2012 the Year of the Book”.

On December 30^th President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko signed a decree №618 “On Declaring 2012 the Year of the Book”.

Such a decision was taken in order to enhance the role of books and reading in modern society, foster love to literary language in the younger generation, develop national literature, ensure state support for national publishing.

The President instructed the Council of Ministers to put together and approve the National plan of activities for this year.

The fact that 2012 was declared the Year of the Book in the Republic of Belarus testifies to the effect that maintenance of society’s spirituality, development of Belarusian literature and culture are a subject of special care for our state.
