We would remind you that the architectural design of Polotsk HPP on the river Zapadnaya Dvina was approved by the decree issued by the Belarusian Council of Ministers №1630 of October 30th, 2008. The construction budget of the plant amounts to more than Br209 billion.

The power of Polotsk HPP that will have 5 turbines and generators is to make up 23MW. The projects presupposes the construction of a run-of-river unit near the village Luchno, a power house with a closed turbine room and a reinforced concrete overfall dam with plain sectional gates for flood water escape. The designers have also provided for a navigation lock to enable the riverine traffic.

The construction is planned to be started in 2009 and finished in 2011 which will become the first stage of the series of hydroelectric power plants on the river Zapadnaya Dvina. According to the Concept of Energy Security of Belarus till 2020, three more hydroelectric power plants are to be built on the Zapadnaya Dvina: Vitebsk, Bishenkovichi and Verkhnedvinsk. The total power of all the four hydroelectric power plants will amount up to 130MW.

It should be noted that this project is implemented within the state comprehensive programme aimed to update basic production assets of Belarusian power system.
