Recent Belarusian developments are aimed at creating a closed scientific production cycle, said the representative of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus in Minsk on August 20th.

It should be noted that the necessity to capitalize scientific developments by means of their prompt introduction into the economy has always been a pressing issue. Still, it becomes even more topical when awarding the State Prize of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology for 2010. It should be noted that the prize is awarded for outstanding research, discoveries and scientific achievements, the results of which, inter alia, have influenced the improvement of economic performance. In other words, these are the discoveries and achievements that found application in real economy.

“In general, recent developments seek to close the cycle: science – scientific and technical development – and then application of these results in different sectors of the economy,” said Chief Scientific Secretary of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, member of the subcommittee on State Prizes of the Republic of Belarus in the field of science and technology S.Chizhik. And the nominees for the State Prize are the examples of how this guideline is being implemented.

This year the following studies are nominated for State Prizes in the field of science and technology:

“Invention and industrial implementation of a fundamentally new method of continuously-cyclic casting by means of freeze crystallization of high-technology components”;

“Development and launching the production of a family of dump trucks with extra heavy payload and forth generation electromechanical transmission”;

“Development and introduction of modern surgical techniques of treating orthopedic pathologies of infantile and adolescent hip joint”;

“Development and launching the production of special fourth generation wheel tractors with military-technical and dual purpose”.

According to S.Chizhik, until December 1st the Bureau of the Committee on State Prizes is to present the President a draft Decree which will include three or fewer works. “The result depends on the ratings that these works will receive during discussions,” explained S.Chizhik. “The winners will be announced by the end of the year”.
