Transport Ministry plans experimental introduction of a differentiated fare for land transport in Minsk in 2013

The Belarus Ministry of Transport and Communications informed about plans for an experiment to establish differentiated fare depending on distance (time) travel in public transport as reported by news agencies at the press service of the Ministry.Such payment systems are introduced for land transport in some cities in Russia (for instance, in Moscow).Experimental introduction is planned for 2013. This will provide a differentiated pay based on the distance (time) travel; will enable modern banking technology for fare payments (SMS-banking, Internet banking, bank cards, including the Internet) to ensure promotion of the reusable electronic travel documents usage for a greater number of passengers, and improve collection of fare on public transport through a flexible system of travel payment, improve public transport recoupment. The cost of implementing ASOP (Automated Fare Collection System) in Minsk, allowing a differentiated pay can range from 17 to 20 million dollars.
