The volume of Russian gas sold to Belarus in 2011 has decreased by 7.3% to 20 billion cubic meters as compared with the year 2010. As a result, in the rating of Russian largest gas buyers Belarus took the fourth place, giving way to Turkey which ranked third (26 billion cubic meters).
The largest consumer was Ukraine, which in 2011 purchased about 40 billion cubic meters, while Germany ranked second (34 billion cubic meters).
According to public corporation “Gazprom”, which is the largest Russian gas seller, the leaders of increase in gas sales in 2011 were Latvia (up 60.1%), Estonia (50.7%) and Turkey (44.3%). Serbia and Montenegro, Finland as well as Czech Republic have reported sagging sales by 21%, 12.3% and 11.4% respectively.
Among the top ten consumers of Russian gas are also Italy, Poland, France, Great Britain, the Czech Republic and Hungary.
We would remind you that in 2012 after the sale of the remaining 50% of “Beltransgaz” Belarus received a discount on Russian gas. After signing the agreement “Gazprom” stated that in 2012 the average gas price for Belarus will make 165.6 dollars per thousand cubic meters.
