Heads of Governments of CIS Member-Countries to Examine Optimization of Branch Cooperation

“The issue of optimizing the activities of CIS branch cooperation authorities will be introduced before the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs as well as before the Council of CIS Heads of States on October 8th 2008,” reported the press service of CIS Executive Committee.

Such a decision was taken at the meeting of the Working Group that was set up in order to work out the drafts determined in section 9 of the Plan of Major Activities which aims to implement CIS Further Development Strategy. The meeting took place in Minsk on September 11th-12th.

We would remind you that the establishment of branch cooperation authorities on basis of the agreements about cooperation in economic, social and other areas signed by CIS member states is specified in article 34 of CIS Charter. The authorities that include the heads of corresponding CIS executive bodies formulate concerted principles and rules of such cooperation as well as promote their practical implementation. At present in the Commonwealth of Independent State there are 78 branch cooperation authorities.

It was also decided that draft Protocol on Alteration of the Agreement about cooperation in the sphere of knowledge diffusion and adult education of January 17th 1998 should be introduced before the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs as well as before the Council of CIS Heads of States.

Besides that, the members of the Working Group have completed the projects of both the Order of preparation and holding the meetings of expert teams for drafts’ endorsement and Standing Orders for the Council of Heads of States, Council of Heads of Governments, Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs as well as for CIS Economic Council.
