CSTO will be advertised in Ukraine

A large scale propaganda of the activities of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) will be held among Ukrainians. The proposal was announced on the yesterday’s CSTO international conference in Kiev, reported by the press service of the defense ministry of the republic of Belarus.

The Russian conference delegation was headed by Alexander Babkov deputy chairman of the Russian State Duma, who reported that the collaboration of the Ukraine and CSTO is profitable for each party. According to him Ukraine’s profit is that “CSTO may be important for the stability of the Crimea”.

“The most acute questions are the propaganda and clarification of the positive sides of the collaboration. – Babakov noted. - We have to widen the contacts connected with specialists attracting from Ukraine and CSTO for the propaganda participation and preparation of the new approach to the system of European security.” Moreover, Babakov underlined the necessity of “effective and pragmatic” participation of the Ukraine in the coming CSTO summit to take place in August in Erevan: “I think the question is resolved.” Starting in April an autonomous non-commercial representative organization “CSTO Institute” started to work, it is headed by the minister Anatoly Tolstuchov. “We need an information centre, through which we could be able to move forward the advantages and perspectives that Ukraine may receive in case of full-fledged participation in the project,” – the deputy of the Party of regions Valery Konovaluk stated.

Also the deputy of the Ukrainian Party of regions ex-defense minister Alexander Kuzmuk said he is sure it is necessary to fix the goals of collaboration on the political level. According to his words Ukrainian may collaborate with CSTO on serious strategic issues – in the military sphere, preparation of military personnel, the creation of joint scientific military centers and universities. In particular he added the Ukraine may join the integrated air defense system of the organization.

At the same time in May foreign minister Konstantin Grischenko reported that the entry of the Ukraine in the CSTO is impossible. Let us note that the president of Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev invited Ukraine to join CSTO during his visit to Kiev in May 17-18.
