The CSTO delegation holds consultations with the representatives of the UN Department of Peacekeeping Operations

From January 21 to 25 during their visit to the UN headquarters the CSTO delegation headed by Deputy Secretary General of the Organization Valery Semerikov will discuss the problems related to the situation in Afghanistan, counter-terrorism and extremism.

On Monday the CSTO spokesman Vladimir Zainetdinov said to the “Interfax-AVN”, “The consultations are scheduled during the visit. They are aimed at an exchange of views on the conceptual approaches of the two organizations in peacekeeping issues and discussion of the prospects for the expanding cooperation between the CSTO and the UN in this field.”

According to his words Semerikov will also hold meetings with the UN Deputies Secretary General and the heads of the structural departments of the UN “to discuss topical issues related to the situation in Afghanistan, counter-terrorism and extremism and the interaction between the two organizations in providing humanitarian assistance to the nations that fell victims to armed conflicts, natural and manmade disasters.”

The CSTO Deputy Secretary General is expected to have a meeting with the permanent representatives of the CSTO member states at the UN.
