Nuclear Power Plant Safety is a Common Task

As Vadim Zaitsev, Chairman of Belarusian State Security Committee, reported to Belarusian News Agency (BelTA), state security agencies of Belarus are to ensure safety of Belarusian nuclear power plant (NPP) over its life cycle period.

As Vadim Zaitsev, Chairman of Belarusian State Security Committee, reported to Belarusian News Agency (BelTA), state security agencies of Belarus are to ensure safety of Belarusian nuclear power plant (NPP) over its life cycle period.

“Despite the fact that the task to guard and defend nuclear power plant is within the scope of other security, defence and law enforcement agencies, state security agencies will participate in ensuring safety of Belarusian NPP over its whole life cycle period,” the agency cites Vadim Zaitsev.

According to Vadim Zaitsev, under existing conditions the significance of State Security Committee in prevention of ecological and anthropogenic disasters is increasing, and first of all if to take into account forthcoming construction of an atomic power plant on the territory of our country. Belarusian State Security Committee in cooperation with other state authorities is implementing a package plan aimed to preserve national interests in the course of NPP construction.

We would remind you that at present the concerned state authorities are being informed about the progress of planned preliminary preceding the construction of the NPP. State Security Committee directly participates in forming normative-legal basis in the field of ensuring security and physical protection of the NPP.

Besides that, it became known that in order to ensure NPP’s safety, a large-scale training aimed at NPP’s protection is to be held in 2010 with the participation of State Security Committee, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry for Emergency Situations and some other departments. Organization and cooperation among all the units and services involved is to be practiced in the course of the training mentioned.
