Hygienic requirements for nuclear power plan construction and operation have been worked out in Belarus

At present in Belarus the package of norms, regulations and hygienic standards “Hygienic requirements for nuclear power station construction and operation (SP AES-2008)” is on its way to approval. Currently the package document draft is under consideration of the National commission on radiation protection. That was reported by the chief of the radiation safety branch in the Republican centre of hygiene, epidemiology and public health Viktor Butkevich.

At present in Belarus the package of norms, regulations and hygienic standards “Hygienic requirements for nuclear power station construction and operation (SP AES-2008)” is on its way to approval. Currently the package document draft is under consideration of the National commission on radiation protection. That was reported by the chief of the radiation safety branch in the Republican centre of hygiene, epidemiology and public health Viktor Butkevich.

He reminded that the document draft has been prepared by the RCHEPH and the Joint Institute of Power and Nuclear Research “Sosni” of the NAS of Belarus. The norms regulate hygienic requirements for the radiation safety of personnel and people as well as for environment security when nuclear power station engineering, construction and operation.

Thus medical securing of the radiation safety of personnel and people exposed to radiation must include medical examination, disease prevention and if required medical treatment and rehabilitation of people who have deviations in health state detected. Personnel must be under medical supervision, have preliminary and regular medical examination at the stated time. “The question of placement will be considered individually in accordance with peculiarities of functional health state, character and intensity of pathologic process, age and working conditions”, - underlined Viktor Butkevich. Besides, the document mentions the necessity for the construction of the healthcare units for medical service of the nuclear power station personnel and their families’ members.

It should be noted that for the reduction of accident risk because of the personnel disoperation Ministry of health care is drafting out government resolution where the list of contraindications that forbid the fulfillment of certain work when nuclear power using will be defined.

At the same time the ministry is working out the procedure of medical and psychophysical examinations that have the aim to avert the placement of specialists with invalid health state conditioned by a disease.
