In Future Belarus Will Remain a Nuclear-Free Zone

Some recent developments that have been going on around the deployment of American antiballistic missile system made certain politicians suggest that nuclear weapons may return onto Belarusian territory.

“There is no question of deploying nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus,” stressed A.Lukashenko.

“The West has various variants of further developments and even that we will deploy Russian antiballistic missile system or nuclear weapons. There isn’t even a question of that,” noted A.Lukashenko.

The Head of Belarusian state is convinced that “we are being challenged and whether we like it or not we must respond; otherwise we will have the same situation as in the Caucasus. Armed conflict is the worst-case scenario”.

Besides that, the President said that expansion of NATO and deployment of antiballistic missile systems right by Belarusian frontier is a problem not only for Russia but also for Belarus. “The frontier is stuffed with control and reconnaissance facilities. At present NATO planes control the adjacent territory, and at times fly beyond the frontiers of the Union State,” said the leader of the country. Later he added that we “have to respond to these challenges, so together we should think over everything without any rush”.

The head of Belarusian state made a special emphasis on the fact that the reaction to the expansion of NATO and deployment of antiballistic missile systems will be “balanced and adequate so as to protect the interests of our states and people”.
