Belarus and Russia Work in Close Military and Technical Cooperation

Existing international agreements rule out the possibility of deployment of nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory. “Nuclear weapons cannot be deployed on the territory of Belarus as provided by the relevant agreement of 1994. The USA and Russia have stood surety for it since Belarus destroyed its nuclear potential,” explained Alexander Surikov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Belarus, at the press conference.

“But with a view to anti-missile systems of the same level, that is intercepting ones, the matter can be considered,” added the diplomat. Yet, the possibility of discussion depends on integration cooperation between the two countries. “If we work on this issue within the framework of the Union State (if it is already formed) – it’s one sort of discussion, if we do it as different states – the talk will be entirely different,” noted A.Surikov. Besides that, the Ambassador stressed that at present Belarus and Russia work in close military and technical cooperation.
