German and Estonian soldiers will make observation flight over Belarus and Russia

On May, 12-15 the common mission of Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Estonia plan to carry out observation flight over the territories of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. That was reported by the press-service of the Ministry of defense in Belarus.

The flight is provided with the corresponding provisions of the Agreement on open skies and will be carried out on the board of the Swedish observation plane SAAB-340. The aim of the flight is the control over the military activities on the territory of the states observed.

We remind that the Agreement on open skies was signed on March, 24 in 1992 in Helsinki and ratified by Belarus on May, 29 in 2001. Its members for today are 34 states. The agreement is aimed at the establishment of the “open skies” regime for the possibility to carry out observation flights over the territories of member-states in order to develop transparency in the field of control over arms and to expand the possibilities to prevent crises and to settle crisis situations within the scopes of OSCE and other existing international organizations. Observations flights are carried out on the board of the specially equipped planes of the member-states.
