Russia will render assistance to Belarusian diplomats and their families in case of emergency evacuation from Japan, said Charg? d’Affaires ad Interim of Belarus to Japan Vyacheslav Beskosty, reports “Interfax-West”.

According to him, at present the embassy is busy with sending home two Belarusians who were late for the flight from Naruto airport because of the transport collapse caused by the earthquake.

“The earthquake lasted all night and is continuing today. According to official data, 1.5 thousand lives have been lost, a lot of people are missing,” said Vyacheslav Beskosty.

In Tokyo, he said, traffic has almost come to normal, but many prefer to travel on foot.

“The situation at the nuclear power plant is still unclear. In the morning officials announced the evacuation of residents from the 10-km zone. In the reactor the level of radiation exceeded the norm 1000 times, at the gates of the station – about 10 times,” said the diplomat. According to him, “Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has just announced that there was no explosion at the nuclear power plant, it was the structure over one of the reactors that simply crashed down”.

As regards the situation in Sendai which is a home to some Belarusians, Vyacheslav Beskosty reported that so far they hadn’t reached the city. However, according to the situation room of the Japanese Foreign Ministry, foreigners are not listed among the dead.

According to Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 25 Belarusians are registered in the consulate in Japan.
