A contract for the supply of the third air defense battery “TOR-M2” to Belarus in 2013 has been signed. This was announced today to the journalists by Deputy Minister of Defense for Armament Igor Lotenkov.

“The second air defense battery “TOR-M2” has been adopted for service in Belarus today. A contract for the supply of the third one has been signed. It is a modern weapon system with high combat capabilities”, the Deputy Minister of Defense said.

The combat characteristics of the weapon systems were tested in live-fire exercises on the training range Ashuluk in Russia last year. "In the coming year we will take another exam – live fire military exercise “Combat Commonwealth-2013”, Igor Lotenkov said.

The battle tasks of air defense missile troops change because of the development of the aviation technology. “Today it is important to know how to fight not only against conventional piloted aircrafts but also against high-accuracy unmanned aerial vehicles such as cruise missile, guided bomb units and so on. Successful results in achieving these aims depend on the automation of the military equipment, application of modern radar aids and the combat vehicle response time minimization.

“TOR-M2” system meets all these characteristics,” Lotenkov added. He also said that it had been a fundamental condition for passing these air defense systems into service .
