The Union State’s Standing Committee initiates the development of a new Union programme for building lorries of Euro-5 standard, - informed Pavel Borodin, the Union State’s Secretary of State.

He noted that “we started negotiating on this issue in 2006 during a forum of the Union State’s programmes in Moscow. Now we are promoting this initiative: it’s time to start a new programme on creating diesel engines of Euro-5 and Euro-6 standard”.

At that Pavel Borodin added that the Standing Committee “doesn’t neglect and will be aiming at adopting a new Union programme – “Open-Cut Transport”.

The Union State’s Secretary of State reminded that over 75% of the Union budget is allocated for implementation of the programmes. The budget of the Union State amounts to 4061 million Russian roubles in 2008. The draft budget provides for financing 38 Union programmes, sub-programmes and events in 2008. Moreover, funds for financing seven new joint programmes have been reserved.

At present (starting from 2005) the Union programme for developing diesel motor-car construction is being carried out. It will be completed in 2009. Its goal is to establish serial production of diesel engines of Euro-3 standard and prepare the production of Euro-4 standard cars.

Belarusian and Russian car and engine producing plants started serial manufacturing of automobiles with domestic engines of Euro-3 standard on January 1, 2008. Serial production of Euro-4 standard cars must be prepared by January 1, 2010. Still, it is necessary to get ready to a new level of production - Euro-5 standard, that is more environmentally friendly, in order to keep on producing competitive lorries. For this purpose it is planned to continue the Union programme.
