Belarusian-Russian Programme Made It Possible to Create Military Cadre Potential of the Union State

One of the most striking examples of military cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the sphere of staff training has become the “Programme of training Belarusian military servants at military schools of Russian Ministry of Defense in 1998-2008”.

One of the most striking examples of military cooperation between Belarus and Russia in the sphere of staff training has become the “Programme of training Belarusian military servants at military schools of Russian Ministry of Defense in 1998-2008”.

For the last ten years of close cooperation about 850 Belarusian servicemen (learners and students) received training at the universities of Russian Ministry of Defense. According to experts, the goals of the programme have been achieved – more intensive integration in military sphere thanks to training military servants as provided by uniform plans as well as creation of military cadre potential of the Union State in order to increase defence capability of the Armed Forces. More than RUB 600 million from Union State budget had been assigned so as to implement the programme. The amount of financing was drawn one hundred percent.

The programme hasn’t been prolonged but the development of this trend will be continued outside the framework of the Union State.

We would remind you that the faculty of General Staff was opened at Belarusian Military Academy in 2006. This enabled Belarus to work out its own system of training highly-qualified military personnel, to train officials for state governing bodies in the field of defence and national security. Before that Belarusian servicemen of strategic control were trained only at the Military Academy under the General Staff of Russian Armed Forces.
