The Union Atlas will be effective in economic management of the polluted areas

The Atlas issued under the Union Chernobyl Program will make it possible to take precise and well-grounded decisions on the economic and agricultural management of the territories influenced by the Chernobyl disaster. This was reported during the presentation of the Atlas on present and expected consequences of the Chernobyl accident for the influenced territories of Russia and Belarus by Maria Geremenchyuk the Head of the Hydrometeorology Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection.

According to her the value of the Atlas for the economy and agriculture is that with the help of it one can see the clear answer on how the radiation environment will develop in the following decades. “Forewarned is forearmed” – Maria Geremenchyuk said.

Based on the data contained in the Atlas we will be able to make adequate decisions on the measures to be taken to provide safe residence on the influenced territories, on agriculture and forest management, on development of the other fields of economy.
