Belarus and Russia can together develop products that will be competitive on world markets

Belarus and Russia can together develop competitive on world markets products, said Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rector of St. Petersburg University, Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics Zhores Alferov at the opening of Belarusian Innovation Week.

Belarus and Russia can together develop competitive on world markets products, said Vice-President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Rector of St. Petersburg University, Nobel Prize Laureate in Physics Zhores Alferov at the opening of Belarusian Innovation Week.

In his welcoming speech, the eminent Russian scientist spoke warmly of his native Belarus and noted that he was impressed with the achievements of Belarusian science presented at the exhibition that opened within the framework of Belarusian Innovation Week.

Zhores Alferov reminded that in the spring of 1945 Minsk was in ruins, but it was then that the construction of such enterprises as MTZ (Minsk Tractor Plant), MAZ (Minsk Automobile Plant), and many others began: “At the exhibition we see that the products they manufacture are high-quality world-class products”.

Nobel Prize winner told the audience about the historical ties that unite the development and establishment of Belarusian and Russian science.

According to him, the development of science in the twentieth century was largely determined by the competition between the USSR and the United States and now many scientists from abroad regret that it ended.

“In Belarus, we have a good example of the role that the NAS of Belarus plays in the organization of scientific and industrial projects. It is good that the current Prime Minister previously headed the Academy of Sciences. It is important that Belarus has established scientific schools in physics, mechanics and chemistry, since they are the basis for innovative development,” said Zhores Alferov.

Russian-Belarusian cooperation, according to the Nobel Prize winner, despite all the attempts to destroy it, is increasing rapidly. “We can together develop competitive on world markets products. Our close technical and scientific cooperation will make it possible to solve any problems,” he said.
