As it was pointed out by RomanMotulsky, the director of the State institution «National library of Belarus» during the conversation with a www.soyuz.by correspondent, the Belarusian government has already approved the project and bureaucratic procedures are on their final stage in the government of the Russian Federation.

After the validation of the project, which had a good press at the Third forum of joint programs in Moscow, it is planned to submit it for consideration to the Union State authorities. In general for project realization it is planned to obtain funds of the union budget, UNESCO and other international organizations as well as the own resources of national libraries of Belarus and Russia.

The aim of the project is to combine rare and early printed editions of the two countries into a common electronic database and to provide a free access to it. The Frantisek Skorina collected editions (10 editions of the Bible, Prague, and 1517-1519) that are located in the NLB fund and books and works of literature that became the common property of Belarusian and Russian nations will be converted into electronic version.

Experts have prepared the rich bibliographic basis, which gives a full presentation of the editions published since the times of Skorina till 1917, including those published in Latin.

R.Motulsky pointed out that other countries may join the project in future, for example, Ukraine.
