This summer three shifts of Moscow volunteers take over the rehabilitation of the Brest Fortress Memorial Complex as reported by Irina Zamaroznaya the leading specialist of the regional executive committee youth department.

According to her it is the third summer when Moscow students from schools and universities who participate in patriotic volunteer action help to rehabilitate the Brest Fortress Memorial Complex. “We feel that the interest to our common history, to the heroic past is still strong among the youth today. The first year one group of students came to Brest, last year – two, and his summer it is already three groups,” – Irina Zamaroznaya noted.

The guys from Russian capital are busy with clearing the ruins, helping to clean the territory: remove the mowed grass, clean the sidewalks, cut bushes. There is enough work for everybody: the area of the memorial complex is 70 ha. It is necessary to keep in due order not only pedestrian zones but also a large green area with water channels on the sides.

On the Russian side the organization of volunteering groups for the work in Belarus is taken over by the Moscow center for youth employment “Perspektiva”. The cooperation between the Brest regional executive committee of “BRSM” (Belarusian Youth Organization) and the state training center in Moscow started in 2008, that year 45 participants of the youth labor union arrived in the city on Bug River.

The receiving party is trying to make the working days for the volunteers diverse by introducing different cultural programs. The students visit museums of the memorial complex and the regional center, go on excursions to the national park “Belovezhskaya Pushcha” and many other programs. According to the established tradition the guys receive diplomas to remember the time on the territory of the legendary memorial complex.
