Grodno Customs Officers Summed Up Their Work in the Current Year

Grodno as well as Brest are our gateways to the west. Tremendous amount of cargo passes though them every year which, of course, has a positive impact on economic development of Belarus. For the last 8 months Grodno regional customs have transferred about RUB 327.2 billion of customs payments to the country’s budget which is 122.4% as compared with the relevant period of last year.

From January to August the customs granted 670 thousand customs permits and certificates which is 67% more in comparison with the previous year. This index reflects the evolution of regional enterprises’ foreign-economic activity.

During the 8 months of the current year about 5 million tons of merchandise was transferred through Grodno regional customs (GRC) which is 800 million tons more as compared to the relevant period of last year. At the same time in 2008 customs transit to the Russian Federation increased by 38 thousand (or by 33%) permits which is about 2 million tons of merchandize by weight.

When exercising customs control, GRC officials revealed and suppressed 1,222 administrative infractions most of which were connected with tobacco goods, mobile phones and accessories to them, clothes, footwear, currency, photo and video equipment.
