Customs union common tariff will be approved by April, 1 – Igor Schuvalov

It is planned to complete the work over the approval and unification of the Common customs tariff within the Customs union of Belarus, Russia and Kazakhstan by April, 1, 2009. This was reported to journalists on the termination of the first Customs commission meeting by the first deputy vice-premier of Russia Igor Schuvalov.

According to the vice-premier at the next commission meeting that will be held on February, 27, the work over the approval of common tariff will be continued. “And we will see how the parties have coordinated the customs tariff in order to carry out its unification by April, 1”, -said I.Schuvalov.

Apart from the issues related to the tariff, the preparation of the Customs code will also become the theme of the next meeting. Touching upon this theme the RF vice-premier said that “in general we are following the plan, and the aim of the Customs code formation within the Customs union of the three states in the first six months of 2009 will be achieved”.

In his turn the EurAsEC deputy secretary general S.Glazyev who participated in the meeting pointed out that within the scopes of the common customs tariff there have been approved already 38% of the commodity items of the external economic activities (that makes more than 4 thousand items). According to him the basic list of the common customs tariff will be enlarged. By April, 1the customs tariff will be formed in order to “solve all the legal problems by the end of 2009 and to start up the Customs union from January, 1, 2010”, pointed out S.Glazyev.
