The tenth meeting of the regular seminar under the Union State Parliamentary Assembly on the topic “Medicine and Life Span in the Union State” is coming to an end today. As Sergey Zabolotets, Deputy Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives at the National Assembly of Belarus, stated at the opening of the seminar, the topic was not chosen by accident taking into account the fact that Belarusian and Russian citizens are far from being the leaders of life span. Therefore, within the Union State we cooperate in public health sphere including such areas as professional development of health manpower, sanitary-and-epidemiologic wellbeing, elimination of Chernobyl nuclear power plant breakdown consequences.

For the last two days seminar participants have been discussing and working out basic guidelines for main integration trends of both countries’ health services, including solution of life span problem in the Union State. Attention of the seminar participants was also attracted to the issues of overcoming differences concerning application of insurance medicine, optimization of manpower and financial resources, improvement of legislation in the sphere of healthy eating and population biosafety.

Besides that, S.Zabolotets paid special attention to the necessity of a purposeful solution to a priority task for the Union State in health service sphere – state guarantees of availability and equal opportunities for Belarusian and Russian citizens to receive quality medical service.

According to Viktor Volodatski, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly Committee on social policy, science, culture and humanitarian issues as well as State Duma deputy, seminar’s mission is not just to make recommendations that are not fulfilled but to take control of them and establish them as a standard. “If we form the Union State, all comments that people have should be taken into account,” he noted.

In his turn, Vyacheslav Bobkov, Director of the All-Russian Centre of Standard of Living, Doctor of Economics, Professor, stressed that at present Russia experiences the surge of interest and government attention in working out social projects. However, having analysed legislative basis in the sphere of demography and social development, he came to a conclusion that the solution of the health problem is not the ultimate aim. Thus he noted that it is necessary to work out strategies on increasing the level and the quality of active population’s health both in Russia and in Belarus.
