The sixth day of the Olympic days in Vancouver brought the Belarusian Olympic team two medals. The holder of bronze medal in biathlon (15 km individual race) became Darya Domracheva, Sergei Noviav won the silver medal in 20 km individual race.

Darya Domracheva came third after Elena Khrustaleva (Kazakhstan, silver) and Tora Berger (Norway, gold). Thus her medal became the third medal for Belarusian sovereign biathlon: in 1994 Svetlana Paramygina became the vice-champion of Lillehammer in the sprint event and in 1998 Alexei Aydarov became the bronze prize-winner in Nagano.

Sergei Novikov came second after Emil Hegle Svendsen (Norway). It is remarkable that the other Norwegian Ole Einar Bjoerndalen showed the same time with Novikov (48.32, 0).

The silver medal won by Sergei Novikov became a real sensation of 2010 Olympics in Vancouver and a pleasant surprise for Belarusian Olympic team and for all Belarus. He had never been the prize winner in individual races at elite level before. In 2008 Sergei together with Domracheva was the silver prize winner in the mixed race of the world championship.
