It is planned that in April Belarus will launch an earth remote sensing satellite, said Chairman of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus Anatoly Rusetsky.

The head of the Academy of Sciences said that Belarusian spacecraft was almost ready to be launched. “Test works and final apparatus acceptance are soon to be over, and we hope that next month it will be transported to the space launching site”.

Belarusian satellite will be carried into the orbit together with the Russian “Kanopus-B” by a cluster launch from the cosmodrome “Baikonur”. Belarusian spacecraft will make it possible to carry out space survey of Belarus’ territory. It will be lighter and more maneuverable than the previous one: it weighs around 400 kg, the resolution is about 2 meters. With the launch of the satellite, Belarus will be able to establish an independent system of earth remote sensing which will enable our country to manage without space information acquisition and processing services provided by other states.

Belarus and Russia are also planning to create a constellation of satellites that will be used for the benefit of the Union State. Deployment of the satellite constellation will expand the range of space-related services provided to customers of the two countries.
