However the name of this activity – Days of Belarus – does not correspond to the scale of events involved. At the opening ceremony Belarusian Minister of Culture Vladimir Matveichuk noted: “These are not the Days of Belarus but a whole Year of Belarus in Moscow as far as events which cover different areas of cooperation will be held throughout the year”.

In his welcoming speech dedicated to the opening ceremony Belarusian Prime-Minister Sergey Sidorski noted that the Days of Belarus will raise Belarusian-Moscow cooperation to a qualitatively new level.

The Mayor of Moscow Yuri Luzhkov has also sent a welcoming speech on the occasion of the solemn event in which he stressed that the Days of Belarus in Moscow would leave just warm impressions in the hearts of Moscow residents.

The opening ceremony was started by a gala concert with the participation of leading arts masters: Belarusian State Dance Group, soloists of National Academic Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, song groups “Syabry” and “Pesnyary” as well as Belarusian variety performers.

Besides cultural events which will be held in the Russian capital in the course of year, Belarusian party will also present the days of economy, education, mass media, days of Belarusian regions and Minsk.

The Year of Belarus in Moscow will be completed at the end of November by the IV Forum of Business Cooperation between Belarus and Moscow.
