AFK “System” may become the owner of the controlling stock of Belarusian MTS operator

To all appearance Russian AFK “System” is striving to become one of the key investors of Belarusian economy. “The aim of the company’s coming into Belarus with its technologies and investments is the development of mutually beneficial business”, - said Vladimir Semashko, first vice premier of Belarus , during the signing of bilateral agreement on cooperation with Russian company. As he pointed out the signed document implies “cooperation in most important directions”, among which there are real estate, telecommunication, medicine, retail trade as well as bank business and high tech sector.

Today Russian company is ready through its Moscow reconstruction and development bank to become a strategic investor of Belarusian “Paritetbank” (the parties have already discussed key issues and practically agreed on price). The issue about investing of microelectronics plant “Integral” is being looked into.

And now it became known that “System” is going to become a co-owner of holding of shares of the largest phone operator MTS. “Now variants are being discussed how it may be done: by buying 2 % or 25% or all 50% of state share”, - said Blafimir Evtushenko, chairman of AFK “System” committee of directors.

This information was confirmed by Andrei Kuznetsov, economic advisor of Russian embassy in Belarus, saying that “now the parties are carrying on dialogue” about AFK’s SOOO MTS control stock purchasing. “However no supernatural efforts are being undertaken to get missing 2% or 51% at once”, - added diplomat.
