K. Bakiyev: I do not cling to that power

K. Bakiyev is not planning to return to Kyrgyzstan and vie for power, stated Kurmanbek Bakiyev during a press conference in Minsk.

K. Bakiyev is not planning to return to Kyrgyzstan and vie for power, stated Kurmanbek Bakiyev during a press conference in Minsk.

“I want to make a statement in order to reassure all those who are “waiting” for my return – I do not cling to that power and do not intend to return,” said K. Bakiyev.

However, he also stressed that “de jure, it is the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan that should make a decision on terminating my powers”. “The President writes an appeal to the Parliament, the Parliament considers it, approves, and from that moment the President’s powers are terminated – he is not the Head of State." K.Bakiev emphasized that he had already filed a request, but as the Provisional Government had dissolved the Parliament, there is no one to acknowledge and consider it. “They dissolved the Parliament, the Constitutional Court as well as the Central Election Commission – they disbanded all and sundry. They are self-appointed, all the legitimate authorities were removed – and what? So, they have what they have,” noted the leader Kyrgyzstan. “After all what happened, they (the Provisional Government) should have promptly tried to enter into constitutional, legal framework and start working,” stressed K. Bakiyev. Therefore, de jure, despite the request filed, K. Bakiyev considers himself the legitimate Head of Kyrgyzstan.

Anticipating the consequences of the current situation in Kyrgyzstan, Kurmanbek Bakiev noted: “What future? Everything that has happened and is happening now will throw back not only the economy of Kyrgyzstan as Kyrgyzstan's image has already fallen considerably. According to K. Bakiyev "there will be a serious outflow (from the country, ref. soyuz.by) among the business community, the intellectuals, people who could employ their intelligence and abilities for the benefit of Kyrgyzstan."
