Internet-relay of Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian hero cities “Milestones of Glory” will be held in Volgograd region during the celebrations dedicated to the 65th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. The participants are to build a web-bridge which will link junior and research libraries of the three countries’ hero cities.

According to the press service of Volgograd region administration, it is Volgograd Regional Junior Library that initiated this unique international information-patriotic project. The action was supported by the administration of the region.

Representatives of authorities, social organizations, education, science and the media are to become the participants of on-line communication. They will discuss patriotic upbringing of the youth and historic significance of awarding the title “Hero City”.

Internet-relay will be held from 3rd to 7th May, 2010. The libraries in all hero cities have already agreed to take part in the project. Among them are the State Library for Young People of Ukraine (Kiev), V. Mayakovsky Central City Public Library (St. Petersburg), M. Svetlov Central City Junior Library (Moscow) and others.

“Every city has its own story of being awarded this honorary title, and the inhabitants of each of them cherish the memory of the past in their own way. This can be expressed by restoration of monuments, opening of special expositions in museums as well as gathering eyewitness accounts,” noted chairman of the Committee on Arts of Volgograd region administration Victor Gepfner. “During the Internet-relay "Milestones of Glory" we will be able to share this priceless experience.”
